Production of ‘The WONDERfools’ Set to Bring Laughter and Action to Netflix

The much-anticipated series The WONDERfools has officially entered production, boasting a talented lineup that includes Park Eun-bin, Cha Eun-woo, Kim Hae-sook, Choi Dae-hoon, Im Seong-jae, and Son Hyun-joo. Set in the final days of 1999, a period marked by doomsday predictions, this superpower comedy adventure follows quirky townsfolk who suddenly find themselves with newfound abilities as they battle sinister forces threatening Haeseong city.

Park Eun-bin as the Spirited Lead, Eun Chae-ni

Known for her standout performances in Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Castaway Diva, Park Eun-bin takes on the role of Eun Chae-ni, a notorious troublemaker in Haeseong. Chae-ni’s life takes an unexpected turn as she navigates the chaotic cusp of the millennium, stumbling into situations that grant her superhuman powers and a newfound mission.

Cha Eun-woo’s Shift into Mystery and Principles

In a break from his previous roles in Wonderful World and True Beauty, Cha Eun-woo plays Lee Woon-jung, a reserved and rule-abiding civic servant from Seoul. His strong sense of duty pairs intriguingly with his mysterious nature as he teams up with Chae-ni to unravel a series of disappearances in the city.

Kim Hae-sook Brings Depth as Jeon-bok

Veteran actress Kim Hae-sook, celebrated for roles in Thirst and Gyeongseong Creature, stars as Kim Jeon-bok, Chae-ni’s only living relative. Jeon-bok runs a popular local eatery and harbors a glamorous past layered with secrets that add complexity to her character.

Supporting Cast Elevates the Humor

Choi Dae-hoon, seen in Beyond Evil and Uprising, portrays Son Kyung-hoon, the ever-complaining city hall chief, while Im Seong-jae from Hellbound Season 2 joins as Kang Ro-bin, known as the town’s biggest pushover. Both characters gain superpowers after a pivotal encounter with Chae-ni, forming an unlikely alliance that blends comic relief with heroic undertones.

Son Hyun-joo Adds the Villainous Edge

Adding tension to the plot, Son Hyun-joo (Hansan: Rising Dragon, The Good Detective) steps into the role of Ha Won-do, a character who embodies calculated ambition masked by a cold, rational demeanor.

Creative Powerhouses Behind the Series

The show is directed by Yoo In-sik, recognized for his acclaimed work on Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Dr. Romantic. The witty screenplay comes from Huh Dah-joong, known for penning the hit comedy Extreme Job, while Kang Eun-kyung, credited with Gyeongseong Creature and Dr. Romantic, serves as the series creator. The production is led by NANGMANCREW and Kakao Entertainment, with FANTAGIO co-producing this unique story filled with humor and action.

Await the Premiere

The WONDERfools promises to be a delightful blend of comedy and superpower action set against the nostalgic backdrop of the late 90s. Mark your calendars and prepare for its exclusive debut on Netflix.
