As the electric vehicle (EV) market in India expands, two prominent models are drawing attention: the recently launched MG Windsor EV and the Tata Curvv EV. With starting prices of Rs 13.49 lakh for the Windsor and Rs 17.49 lakh for the Curvv, these compact SUVs are raising the bar in the electric segment. Let’s explore the key differences between these vehicles, focusing on pricing, design, features, and performance.

Pricing and Variants

The MG Windsor EV, MG Motor India’s latest release, is available in three main variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. The Excite variant starts at Rs 13.49 lakh, while the Exclusive is priced at Rs 14.49 lakh, and the top-tier Essence costs Rs 15.49 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom and include the battery). A unique aspect of the Windsor is its Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, which allows users to rent the battery, starting from Rs 9.99 lakh for the base model, significantly lowering the initial cost.
On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV is offered in five main variants with two battery options: a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh. The 45 kWh variant begins at Rs 17.49 lakh for the Creative trim and rises to Rs 19.29 lakh for the Accomplished Plus S trim. The 55 kWh models range from Rs 19.25 lakh to Rs 22 lakh, with the Empowered Plus S variant being the most expensive.

Dimensions and Exterior Comparison

When selecting an electric SUV, size and road presence are crucial. The MG Windsor EV measures 4295 mm in length, 1850 mm in width, and 1677 mm in height, boasting a wheelbase of 2700 mm and a ground clearance of 186 mm, along with an impressive 604 liters of boot space.
Conversely, the Tata Curvv EV is slightly longer at 4310 mm but narrower at 1810 mm, standing shorter at 1637 mm with a wheelbase of 2560 mm. Its ground clearance is 190 mm, and it offers 500 liters of boot space. While the Curvv has a marginally larger road footprint, the Windsor compensates with greater width, interior space, and boot capacity.

Feature Comparison

Both vehicles come equipped with advanced technology and convenience features. The Windsor EV impresses with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, alongside wireless charging. Additional premium features include ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, rear AC vents, and a nine-speaker Infinity sound system. The Windsor also offers a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and multiple driving modes for enhanced comfort.
The Tata Curvv EV also shines in the feature department, boasting a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen and a 320W 9-speaker JBL sound system. It includes a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat. A standout feature is the two-step rear seat recline function for added passenger comfort. The Curvv also offers a cooled glove box, connected car technology through the Arcade.ev app suite, and gesture-controlled powered tailgate functionality.

Safety and Technology

Safety is a top priority for both EVs, featuring six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, and various driver assistance technologies. The Windsor EV is equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
In summary, both the MG Windsor EV and Tata Curvv EV present compelling options in the electric SUV market, each with its unique offerings and features. Your choice ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences.
